The Power of Partnership in Research: Improving Healthcare Outcomes in Underserved CommunitiesDate
August 1, 2013
Westin Memphis Beale Street
The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) hosted a regional workshop at the Westin Memphis Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee, August 1, 2013.
The event, The Power of Partnership in Research: Improving Healthcare Outcomes in Underserved Communities was a highly energized gathering of members across the health care community. This meeting was designed to help build a patient-centered research community in the Memphis region. Part of PCORI’s foundational commitment is to produce information which improves health and healthcare outcomes, by keeping patients’ priorities firmly in mind.
We welcomed patients, caregivers, and local health care leaders from Tennessee and the surrounding states (Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Kentucky, southern Illinois, and southeast Missouri) to join us in building a patient-centered research community, to learn about PCORI, and guide us on how to conduct “research done differently.”
Those in Memphis discovered their place in patient-centered outcomes research. We heard from those who are already doing research differently. We learned the many ways you can be involved in PCORI initiatives. We found potential partners in research. Most importantly, share their stories and their vision of research “guided by patients, caregivers and the broader health care community.”
