Notice to Applicants:
Please note that Summary Statement will be sent by e-mail no later than Friday, April 13, 2012. If you don’t receive your Summary Statement, please contact us at PFA12001@pcori.org.
Note that we cannot reply to individual inquiries regarding scoring or funding decisions. We expect awards to be announced in mid May 2012.
The merit reviews for the PCORI Pilot Projects have now concluded and PCORI is continuing the process of selection. We expect to make funding announcements in May but we know that you may be anxious to hear about the status of your application. Because of the large volume of applications, we will not be able to answer individual requests for information at this time; however, we would like to provide you with some updates and guidance.
- If you are a registered user of eRA Commons you may be able to access your score, however, all official communications regarding your application will come directly from PCORI.
- The best source of information about your application will be the Summary Statement, which outlines comments and scores of reviewers. You should receive your Summary Statement from PCORI by April 13.
- As additional information and guidance is available, we will share it with all applicants by posting it at pcori.org.

Purpose: The purpose of the PCORI Pilot Projects Grant Program is threefold. First, the applications themselves will assist PCORI with ongoing development and enhancement of national research priorities for patient-centered outcomes research. Applicants will be expected to establish the significance of the proposed research and build a case for why it should be considered a guiding question for PCORI. Second, the PCORI Pilot Projects Grant Program will support the collection of preliminary data that can be used to advance the field of patient-centered outcomes research, providing the platform for a future PCORI research agenda. Third, the PCORI Pilot Projects Grant Program will support the identification of methodologies that can be used to advance patient-centered outcomes research as well as identify gaps where methodological research needs further development.
Deadline: Letters of intent for must be received by November 1, 2011, and applications must be received by December 1, 2011.

Clarifications to the PFA and Grant Application Instructions:
PCORI has made several refinements to the Funding Announcement and Grant Application Instructions. Specifically, we have clarified:
- The page limits for the research plan to define the limit for Specific Aims as 1 page, the Research Strategy as 10 pages, and the remaining sections of the research plan as unlimited.
- That there is a one-inch margin requirements but that pages may have headers and footers within the defined one-inch margin.
- That already prepared biosketches may be used rather than PCORI Form E and have revised the biosketch requirements to include up to 15 of the most relevant peer-reviewed publications.
- The inclusion of and provides guidance for a resource sharing plan as part of the Research Plan.
