PCORI Reviewers: Help Us Evaluate Research Funding Applications
We need scientists, patients, and other healthcare stakeholders who are passionate and committed to act as reviewers for PCORI
Beginning with reviews of our August 2013 Cycle of PFAs, we will start to use standing panels to evaluate applications in our five national research priority areas. But as we move to this standing-panel model, we will continue to welcome applicants for additional reviewers—scientists, patients, and other healthcare stakeholders, including payers, employers, industry and health system representatives, clinicians, and policymakers. Scientists, patients, and other healthcare stakeholder reviewers are highly valued members of the PCORI community. Reviewers are essential to helping PCORI fulfill its mission and to fund research that is both scientifically rigorous and truly patient-centered. As part of “research done differently,” PCORI includes patients, caregivers, and other healthcare stakeholders in reviewing funding applications. On merit review panels, scientific, patient, and other stakeholder reviewers are represented and each reviewer’s scores are equally weighted to ensure that patient and other stakeholder perspectives are heard. All reviewers assess the applications against a special set of distinctly PCORI—and patient-centered—criteria.
