PCORI Board Approves Selection of 41 New Advisory Panel Members

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 16, 2016) — The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors today approved the selection or reappointment of 48 people to serve on PCORI’s seven multi-stakeholder advisory panels. This includes 41 new candidates chosen from more than 400 people, who either nominated themselves or were nominated by third parties. The Board also approved the appointment of chairs and co-chairs for three panels.

PCORI advisory panels advise and provide recommendations to the Board, Methodology Committee, and staff on planning, developing, implementing, and enhancing PCORI’s work to develop a portfolio of patient‐centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER). Panels have 10 to 21 members, each of whom is appointed to serve a term ranging from one to three years as a means of maintaining continuity on the panels.

We are delighted to welcome our newest panel members,” said PCORI Executive Director Joe Selby, MD, MPH. “Their knowledge and experience are essential to helping us review and prioritize the patient-centered CER topics submitted to PCORI and ensure that our work continues to be scientifically rigorous and patient-centered. We also wish to say a sincere thanks to those panel members who have completed their terms and are rotating off. These past two years have been ones of positive growth and our advisors have contributed much to our progress.”

The new panelists bring a range of perspectives. The panelists include researchers, patients, patient advocates, caregivers, and clinicians, as well as representatives of health systems, health insurance plans, employer purchasers of health plans, and educational institutions.

Selection of panel members involved a thorough evaluation of candidates’ expertise, experience, and qualifications related to their panel of interest, as well as their ability to contribute to the panel’s tasks and responsibilities.
