Laura Kolaczkowski’s experience as the lead patient representative for The Accelerated Cure Project’s Multiple Sclerosis PPRN, funded by PCORI for 2014-15, builds on her knowledge of PCORI as a patient reviewer/reader for cycles 2 and 3 (Addressing Disparities). PCOR methods of shared decision making are particularly relevant to patient advocacy movements within the MS and other chronic disease communities and align with her research interests, which focus on communication methods and how to create shared meanings that translate to improved healthcare decision making tools and health outcomes. She developed and facilitates patient activities including a local MS Aquatics program. Kolaczkowski is actively involved with the online MS community, using social media to share experiences and knowledge. She maintains her personal blog at InsideMyStory.com and writes as an MS Expert for MultipleSclerosis.net. Her degree is in communication management from the University of Dayton.
