Michael R. Dueñas serves as the Chief Public Health Officer of the American Optometric Association. His work experience includes, bench scientific research, private clinical and hospital based practice, teaching, and applied research with service to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. Dr. Dueñas has served on the National Commission on Vision and Health, George Washington University, School of Public Health and Health Services and testified before the 113th US Congress. His research interests include public health and epidemiology, linkages between chronic disease and visual impairment, environmental health, risk assessment, disease prevention and measuring access to care to improve quality of life for all people at all life stages. He holds a BS from the University of Florida and an OD from the University of Alabama, UAB Medical Center – School of Optometry.

Galdo served as a former Co-Chair of the Advisory Panel on Improving Healthcare Systems from April 2014 - April 2017.
