Stephanie Townsell serves as the Director of HIV Surveillance for the Chicago Department of Public Health. In this role, she manages several CDC grants aimed at monitoring the HIV epidemic, analyzing collected data, and disseminating findings to community and clinical stakeholders. She earned a BS in chemical engineering from Northwestern University, and an MPH from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health in maternal and child health/epidemiology. Her public health experiences include facilitation of faith-based prevention and awareness programs, coordination of evaluation research, and coordination of the Community Engagement and Research Core of the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences at the University of Illinois. Townsell is also a member of the Community Engagement Advisory Board for the University of Illinois. She was born and raised in Kansas City, but currently resides on the Westside of Chicago with her husband, Richard, and their two teens.
