Trent Haywood is Chief Medical Officer for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, a national federation of 38 independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies. As the Association’s Chief Medical Officer, he is responsible for the Office of Clinical Affairs, which strives to improve opportunities between providers and BCBS companies to improve the choices of quality healthcare provided to members. He also oversees the Technology Evaluation Center (TEC), a nationally recognized evidence-based practice center that uses evidence-based methodology for the assessment of clinical technologies. He holds a MD from the University of Illinois—Chicago and a JD from Northwestern University.

Haywood served as a member and Chair of the Advisory Panel on Improving Healthcare Systems from April 2013 - April 2015.
