National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda
The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute developed its draft National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda as an initial roadmap to guide the Institute’s work. PCORI published the draft for public comment on January 23, 2012. The Priorities and Agenda, after final approval by PCORI’s Board of Governors, will guide funding announcements for comparative clinical effectiveness research that will give patients and those who care for them the ability to make better-informed health decisions.
PCORI held a 53-day public comment period on the draft National Priorities and Research Agenda, from January 23-March 15, 2012, receiving a total of 474 comments. In addition to receiving public input via its web site, e-mail and postal mail, PCORI hosted a forum, its first National Patient and Stakeholder Dialogue, to solicit further public input and feedback.
On a public teleconference/webinar held April 25, 2012, the PCORI Board of Governors voted to amend the draft Research Agenda in response to public comments, adding or refining language to respond to the themes that emerged from public comments. The Board did not recommend changes to the draft National Priorities for Research because public comments did not identify significant gaps in the five proposed priorities.
A full, final version of the National Priorities and Research Agenda, including accepted revisions, will be posted May 21, after final review and approval by the Board at its next public meeting in Denver.
