Research We Support

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) was created to fund research that will provide patients, their caregivers and clinicians with the evidence-based information needed to make better-informed health care decisions.

PCORI is developing research methods that support the engagement and meaningful inclusion of patients at every step of the research process. Our legacy will include standards for research that anyone can use to address the health outcomes that matter to patients.

What is PCOR?

With public input and approval from the PCORI Board of Governors, PCORI created the definition for “patient-centered outcomes research.”  Visit the link above for more information about PCOR, the questions we are asking, and the steps we are taking to answer them.

What Guides Our Research?

PCORI’s National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda has prioritized five research areas. Explore our guide for funding comparative clinical effectiveness research designed to help patients and those who care for them make better-informed healthcare decisions.

How Will We Decide on Specific Topics for Research?

We are engaging patients, caregivers and the broader healthcare community to play a role in identifying and evaluating topics that will lead to targeted funding announcements.  Find out more about PCORI’s process for selecting specific topics to study.

Why Do Methods Matter in PCOR?

Our 17-member Methodology Committee works to define methodological standards for our research. Learn more about the better methods we will produce, to provide trusted information and lead to better health care decisions, and ultimately to better health.
