PCORI Board approves 28 new members to advisory panels

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors yesterday approved proposed slates with a total of 28 people to serve on PCORI’s five multi-stakeholder advisory panels. Panelists were chosen from more than 265 candidates who either nominated themselves or were nominated by others. In addition, the Board approved the appointments of current advisory panel members to serve as chairs for three advisory panels.

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors today approved $254 million in funding for 28 new research studies aimed at eliminating disparities in maternal morbidity and mortality, preventing suicide among young people, and improving behavioral health, maternal and infant outcomes, cancer care, surgical care and outcomes for people with chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Lower- and higher-dose aspirin achieve similar protection and safety for people with cardiovascular disease

People with cardiovascular disease (CVD) taking aspirin to lower their chances of suffering a heart attack or stroke experienced similar health benefits, including reduced death and hospitalization for heart attack and stroke, whether they took a high or low dose of aspirin, according to a study presented today at ACC.21, the American College of Cardiology’s 70th Annual Scientific Session and published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

PCORI launches training tool to help people partner with health researchers

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) has launched Research Fundamentals, a free online training to help people interested in contributing to health research. Research Fundamentals is designed to guide patients, caregivers and other interested stakeholders as they learn about the research process, gain a better understanding of patient-centered research and build confidence to partner with researchers.
