Matchmaking Challenge FAQs »

This public webinar provided a detailed description of the PCORI Matchmaking App Challenge, an app design competition PCORI launched March 24, 2014 and is hosting with Health 2.0. The Matchmaking App Challenge is a follow-up to the PCORI Challenge Initiative, which concluded in June 2013. In that initiative, we asked for concepts and prototypes of an app or website that would facilitate the formulation of partnerships between patients, researchers, and other stakeholders who want to conduct PCOR together.

Building on the ideas submitted and lessons learned from the first Challenge, now, the Matchmaking App Challenge asks for developers to submit fully polished, ready-to-publish apps, and a companion website to connect patients, researchers and other stakeholders as partners in the conduct of PCOR.

PCORI will award three winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) for the Matchmaking App Challenge, for a total prize purse of $150,000. Developers have until August 15, 2014 to submit their apps. Winners will be announced on September 22, 2014.

During the webinar, Health 2.0 staff and members of PCORI’s Engagement Team discussed the history, motivation, and objectives of the Matchmaking App Challenge; Health 2.0 explained submission guidelines and judging criteria in detail. A patient and a researcher shared their hopes for a matchmaking app, and the challenges they’ve faced in making research partnerships. The webinar also served as a Q&A for potential developers who need more information on PCORI and the Matchmaking App Challenge.
