The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute announced in December an investment of more than $100 million in the development of PCORnet: The National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network to improve the nation’s capacity to conduct comparative clinical effectiveness research rapidly and efficiently and provide needed evidence to help patients and their caregivers make better informed decisions. Awards went to 29 health data networks, including 18 Patient-Powered Research Networks (PPRNs). PPRNs are governed by the participating patients and their partners, and each is focused on a particular condition. By definition, PPRN participants are interested in sharing health information and participating in research. PCORI funding will be used to expand the network, to begin collecting standardized clinical and patient-reported data, and to interact with the funded healthcare delivery systems within the CDRNs. In this Webinar, PCORI’s leadership discussed the vision for the network and its potential value for not only outcomes research but also new therapy development. This webinar is a collaboration between PCORI and FasterCures.
