At its January 24, 2017, meeting, the Board approved $7 million for efforts to develop the capacity for rapid evidence generation using PCORnet's infrastructure. This includes rapid observational research designed to lead high-impact studies.

The Board also approved up to $8.8 million to support the development of people-centered communities in PCORnet. The funds will support the development of up to four such pilot communities based in current PCORnet Patient-Powered Research Networks. These communities will work to produce better health outcomes based on faster, more effective, rapid cycle research.
