About Amy Berman

Amy Berman is a fierce and long-time advocate for developing new models of care that will improve health outcomes for older adults and people with serious illness. It is a subject she knows well, having openly and movingly shared her own experiences living with stage IV breast cancer over the past several years. She oversees The John A. Hartford Foundation’s work on age-friendly health systems and its efforts to advance palliative care. She has also directed a number of the Foundation’s collaborations with federal partners, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, and the Administration for Community Living. She is the recipient of numerous honors for her work, and her opening keynote will offer her insights, from personal and professional points of view, on a central question in health care today—figuring out “what matters,” and to whom.
