PCORI brought together patient, family and caregiver advocacy groups to discuss the state of evidence and the most pressing research needs in the treatment of opioid use disorder.

As part of PCORI’s efforts to fund high-impact and useful research on critical patient-centered health and healthcare issues, PCORI is hosting a series of stakeholder workgroups to discuss topics that focus on office-based opioid treatments (OBOT) using buprenorphine for opioid use disorder (OUD), specifically to consider the comparative effectiveness of different types and intensities of psychosocial services that are provided as part of OBOT. PCORI intends to use feedback from these workgroups to develop a funding announcement in this area. The objective of the workgroup is to provide input that informs the development of a set of comparative research questions whose findings could improve patient-centered outcomes.
