2020 PCORI Virtual Annual Meeting Plenary Session
*The video recording also includes closing remarks from Nakela L. Cook, MD, MPH, PCORI's Executive Director.
At last year’s Annual Meeting, we convened a group of congressional staff and PCORI allies to discuss the outlook for PCORI reauthorization. This year we come to you with the strength of a 10-year reauthorization, passed by a bipartisan vote, that includes robust funding to continue supporting critical research. The bipartisan reauthorization legislation also introduced certain policy changes, including allowing researchers to capture data on the potential burdens and economic impacts of the use of healthcare services and the establishment of two statutory topics for funding prioritization: maternal mortality and intellectual and development disabilities. We also have a new Executive Director with a vision for PCORI’s future and trajectory over the next 10 years. With all that has happened over the course of this year, we are, without a doubt, at the outset of “PCORI 2.0.”
Join us as we look toward the future of PCORI and talk with key congressional staff members who led the PCORI reauthorization effort. Executive Director Nakela Cook will sit down with congressional staffers to discuss the content of the negotiated reauthorization legislation and the congressional perspective on PCORI’s next phase. The panel will also discuss congressional priorities in 2020 and beyond and how PCORI can help members of Congress working to address key health policy issues.
