As a precursor to the 2022 PCORI Annual Meeting, PCORI hosted a Wikipedia edit-a-thon focused on updating Wikipedia articles with information highlighting topics that will be featured in Annual Meeting breakout sessions and plenaries. Topics included maternal health, health equity and disparities, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and other areas of interest.

The two-hour webinar introduced Wikipedia and how basic editing on the site works. Participants could learn about Wikipedia’s active monitoring of edits to medical- and health-related articles and what types of edits are acceptable. Attendees also could begin editing Wikipedia articles in real time during the session with support from PCORI’s Wikipedian-in-Residence.

The edit-a-thon ended with a debrief and suggested next steps and opportunities for ongoing assistance. Participants did not need to have previous Wikipedia editing experience.
