On May 7, 2024, PCORI will begin accepting Letter of Intent (LOI) submissions for the Broad Pragmatic Studies PCORI Funding Announcement (BPS PFA) under Cycle 2 2024.

This PFA seeks to fund proposals for high-quality patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) studies.

All research proposals must align with at least one of the PCORI National Priorities for Health described within the PFA, and applicants have the option to choose up to three of 12 Topic Themes, based on how their proposed research aligns with the themes.

PCORI has also identified Special Areas of Emphasis (SAEs) within this BPS PFA to support innovative, high-impact studies that fit clearly within our core mission of patient-engaged and patient-centered CER. The SAEs are:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Improving Health and Quality of Life in Down Syndrome
  • Peripheral Arterial Disease
  • Functional Sensory Impairment in Older Adults

The purpose of calling out these SAEs is to encourage submissions to these areas, not to limit submissions to these areas. Applicants addressing an SAE must identify which priority area for research is best associated with their research approach.

Through this PFA, PCORI will support research studies with direct costs up to a maximum of $12 million. At the same time, PCORI is also committing up to $160 million per cycle through this funding opportunity.

View more details about this PFA and attend a virtual applicant town hall on May 17.
