PCORI's Online System will open on Jan. 9, 2024, for the submission of Letters of Intent (LOI) for the following PCORI Funding Announcements (PFAs).
LOIs will be due on Feb. 6, 2024, by 5 pm (ET), and applications will be due on May 7, 2024, by 5 pm (ET).
Sleep Health Topical PCORI Funding Announcement
This PFA is seeking to fund high-quality, patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) studies that focus on sleep health, particularly in high-need and/or underserved populations. PCORI is particularly interested in submissions that address the following special areas of emphasis: promoting sleep health equity, chronic conditions co-occurring with sleep disturbances and focus on sleep health beyond diagnosed sleep disorders.

Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Topical PCORI Funding Announcement
This PFA is seeking to fund high-quality, patient-centered CER studies that focus on people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This funding opportunity aims to fund the comparison of interventions encountered by individuals of all ages with IDD with a special interest in the areas of sleep health, Down syndrome and improving care delivery with a focus on ableism.

Maternal Morbidity and Mortality Topical PCORI Funding Announcement
This PFA is seeking to fund high-quality, patient-centered CER studies that focus on maternal morbidity and mortality (MMM) and address patient-centered CER questions that will fill important evidence gaps in maternal health. PCORI is particularly interested in submissions that address the following special areas of emphasis: optimal diagnosis, prevention and treatment strategies for high-risk pregnant people, populations experiencing disparities in maternal health outcomes and observational comparative effectiveness research examining variations in healthcare practices.

Phased Large Awards for Comparative Effectiveness Research (PLACER)
This PFA is seeking to fund research studies that will address critical decisions faced by patients, caregivers, clinicians and stakeholders across the health and healthcare community and for which there is insufficient evidence. The proposed trials should address critical decisional dilemmas that require important new evidence about the comparative clinical effectiveness of available interventions. They should also compare interventions that already have robust evidence of efficacy and are in current use.

Advancing the Science of Engagement
This PFA is seeking to fund studies that build an evidence base on engagement in research, including measures to capture structure/context, process and outcomes of engagement in research; techniques that lead to effective engagement in research; and how effective engagement techniques should be modified and resourced for different contexts, settings and communities to ensure equity in engagement and research.

Broad Pragmatic Studies
This PFA will support investigator-initiated, innovative, high-impact studies that fit within PCORI's core mission of patient-engaged and high-quality patient-centered CER studies. All research proposals must align with at least one of the four PCORI National Priorities for Health, and applicants have the option to choose up to three of 12 Topic Themes based on how their proposed research aligns with the themes. PCORI has identified three special areas of emphasis within this funding opportunity — Long COVID, social needs/social determinants of health and post-traumatic stress disorder — to encourage submissions to these areas.

Improving Methods for Conducting Patient-Centered Comparative Clinical Effectiveness Research
Through this PFA, PCORI is seeking to fund studies that address high-priority methodological gaps in patient-centered CER. This PFA will also fund studies that address important methodological gaps and lead to improvements in the strength and quality of evidence generated by CER studies. The PFA includes four areas of programmatic priorities.
