PCORI Emerging Health Care Innovation Brief -- With a background showing a human genome helix

The latest Emerging Health Care Innovation Brief highlights two recent actions by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA):

  • The approval of the first treatment for adults and children with congenital thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, a rare and life-threatening blood clotting disorder.
  • The accelerated approval of a single-dose vaccine to prevent infection with chikungunya, a mosquito-borne virus and emerging global health threat.

The brief also looks at a noninvasive sensory stimulation device that is being investigated to treat mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease, as well as the possible use of smartphone applications that employ generative artificial intelligence to improve patient engagement and health outcomes.
