PCORI Board approves 34 new advisory panel members

Panels advise PCORI Board, Methodology Committee and staff on research and engagement efforts

September 14, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC — The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors today approved the selection of 34 people to serve on PCORI’s five multi-stakeholder advisory panels. They also approved chairs and co-chairs for four of the five panels.  The 34 new panel members appointed either nominated themselves or were nominated by third parties.

PCORI’s advisory panels provide advice and recommendations to the Board, PCORI Methodology Committee and staff on planning, developing, implementing and enhancing PCORI’s work to build a portfolio of patient‐centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER). Each of the five panels has 10 to 24 members, each of whom is appointed to serve a term of three years.

“We are delighted to welcome our newest panel members. Their knowledge and experience are crucial to helping us review and prioritize the patient-centered CER topics submitted to PCORI and ensuring that our work continues to be scientifically rigorous and patient-centered,” said PCORI Executive Director Nakela L. Cook, MD, MPH. “We also wish to say a sincere thanks to those panel members who have completed their terms. PCORI and its research portfolio have benefitted greatly from their contributions.”

Selecting panelists involved a detailed evaluation of candidates’ expertise, experience and qualifications related to their panel of interest, as well as their ability to contribute to the panel’s tasks and responsibilities. More information about the selection process is available on PCORI’s website.

The program allows parents and their doctors to safely reduce the number of days newborns need to stay on oxygen therapy at home.

Details of all projects approved for funding by the Board are on PCORI’s website. All PCORI-funded projects were approved pending a business and programmatic review by PCORI staff and issuance of formal award contracts.
