Varleisha Gibbs has been an occupational therapist for more than 17 years. She currently serves as the Vice President of Practice Engagement and Capacity Building for the American Occupational Therapy Association, supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives for the field of occupational therapy. Prior, she served as the Scientific Programs Officer with the American Occupational Therapy Foundation. She is a graduate of the University of Delaware and Columbia University programs in occupational therapy. In addition, she holds doctoral degrees from Thomas Jefferson University and Seton Hall University with a doctorate in health sciences leadership from Seton Hall University’s School of Health and Medical Sciences. As a tenured Associate Professor, she was actively involved in scholarship and mentorship.
Gibbs has published in peer-reviewed journals in addition to authoring two books. She presents nationally and internationally on evidence-based topics and promoting the role of occupational therapy. She is the inaugural chair of Delaware’s first master's of occupational therapy program at Wesley College. To this end, she has years of experience in program development, strategic planning, and assessment.
Varleisha served as Chair of the Advisory Panel on Healthcare Delivery and Disparities from August 2020 to August 2023.
