Margaret Clayton is an Associate Professor and Director of the PhD program at the College of Nursing, University of Utah. Her research intersects the disciplines of nursing and communication across the cancer continuum, addressing cancer symptom management, uncertainty and distress about cancer recurrence, communication processes and preferences of breast cancer survivors, and of cancer caregivers during home hospice care. Complementing her research background, is her more than 25 years of nursing experience. She received her BSN from the University of Connecticut, her MS from Pace University, and her PhD and postdoctoral training from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Clayton served as a member of the Advisory Panel on Assessment of Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment Options from Spring 2013 - Spring 2017.
