Project Summary
The purpose of this contract is to promote patient-centered research in the Puget Sound Asthma Coalition (PSAC). The PSAC is a multi-organizational effort to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities affected by asthma. Our four aims are to:
- Strengthen the governance infrastructure of the coalition to support patient-centered research.
- Strengthen the communication infrastructure of the coalition to engage parents of patients in research.
- Expand and mature research partnerships.
- Develop comparative effectiveness research questions.
These aims will be accomplished by supporting a coalition chairperson to lead meetings and interim activities, administering a process evaluation survey to members to assess our sense of purpose, supporting membership and representation, and adopting community-based participatory research principles to evaluate potential research opportunities. Communication infrastructure will be strengthened through development of a coalition orientation and a patient advisory group. External communication will be enhanced through changes to the coalition website and the creation of a social media site.
Research partnerships will be expanded and matured via the creation of a research advisory network. Comparative effectiveness research questions will be developed based on the cross-cutting topics identified in Tier I, through our community cafés with parents of children with asthma. Potential research topics will be refined by the parent advisory group and the research advisory network, using criteria developed by the coalition. Logic models will be drafted for two priority topics, which will be used to support a Tier III proposal.
