Umbereen S. Nehal, MD, MPH, is Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs for Community Healthcare Network. 

In addition, Nehal influences the public discourse through her volunteer work and advocacy. Nehal led a nationwide campaign as chair of the Task Force of American Muslims for Affordable Health Care that was conducted in conjunction with the White House. Nehal leveraged community resources and grassroots organizing to educate and enroll American Muslims in new health coverage options. In recognition of this work, Nehal was honored by an invitation from President Barack Obama to the White House.

Nehal is skilled at implementing and disseminating best practices through public health education. Nehal has advised the Connecticut Department of Public Health on development of curriculum on medical homes for children with special needs and has co-authored national curriculum on medical homes for pediatric residents. Nehal was invited to moderate a panel discussion with then Surgeon General Regina Benjamin on the National Prevention Strategy, a multi-agency initiative designed to promote health and wellness in all policies. She has been named Health Advocate of the Year. She looks forward to applying these experiences to serving the mission of PCORI.

Nehal previously served as a member of the Advisory Panel on Addressing Disparities and a co-chair of the Advisory Panel on Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research from August 2016 to August 2019.
