Alexis Snyder is a Patient Family and Community Engagement Specialist. As a parent of a young adult with complex medical needs, she has a unique perspective on the healthcare delivery and systems of care available to patients with medical complexity and rare disease. Snyder has Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Sociology, and her background is in health care, recreation therapy, patient rights, advocacy and ethics. She first became involved with PCORI while Co-Chair of the Patient and Family Advisory Council of Franciscan Children’s in Brighton, Massachusetts. Through her participation as a parent research partner on the Engagement Award, Franciscan Helps Families Connect, Snyder used parent generated data to develop a voice for parents of children with medical complexity to identify barriers and share experiences in obtaining health care. As a CO-Investigator on the Engagement Award, Boston BRI…DGE, she convened, organized, and supported capacity of stakeholders to become engaged in research partnerships, and facilitated relationships between stakeholders and researchers and academic institutions for research equity and impact. She chose to become a PCORI Ambassador because she is passionate about patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) and PCORI’s mission. She is an advisor to several regional and national agencies that include the National Quality Forum, the Center for Community Health Education Research and Service (CCHERS), and CMS, as well as a current member of the Health Information Technology Advisory Committee of the Office of the National Coordinator.
Snyder enjoys educating patients, caregivers, physicians and researchers about PCORI through presentations as well as workshops about authentic engagement in PCOR. She has been engaged with PCORI since 2014 and became a PCORI Ambassador in 2017.
