Alyna T. Chien, MD, MS
Assistant Professor, Harvard Medical School, Boston Children’s Hospital
Alyna T. Chien is a health services researcher based at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital. She has been committed to reducing healthcare disparities throughout her career, which has spanned both direct service and health services research in resource-constrained settings. Before becoming a physician, she had nearly a decade of experience in community-based direct service. As a physician, she has always cared for vulnerable patient populations, working almost exclusively with patients insured by Medicaid or receiving care in a free or federally qualified health center setting. As a health services researcher, she has been building the empirical base upon which we can design quality improvement interventions and payment reforms such that they may help reduce disparities in care. She has also examined disparities related to the medically complex population of children with special healthcare needs. Her work has been funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and a variety of private foundations. She holds a BA, MS, and MD from the University of Chicago.
Chien served as a member of the Advisory Panel on Addressing Disparities from April 2013 - April 2015.
