Anne Sydor

Anne Sydor is a care partner to young adult children who live with multiple chronic conditions (autism, anxiety, depression, migraine and substance use disorder), and also lives with multiple conditions herself (hypothyroidism, migraine and depression). As a care partner and advocate and through her own experience, Sydor has learned both that patient-centered care is essential, and that it is still all too uncommon. Although she knows first- and second-hand the trauma patients can experience when they are not centered in their care, she remains a staunch proponent of evidence-based preventive, therapeutic and palliative health care. She is grateful for medical advances, from vaccines that prevent infectious diseases to opioid antagonists that save lives and migraine treatments that reduce disability. Sydor’s educational and professional background is varied. She trained as a basic scientist in neurobiology to study disease mechanisms and then moved into medical publishing. After working in medical publishing to educate physicians at all levels of their careers for over 20 years, Sydor built an independent side business as a medical writer and research consultant. She used her own scientific knowledge and what she learned from publishing to help researchers write manuscripts for peer-review publications and grants that were funded. Throughout her time in publishing, grant writing and research advising, Sydor found work related to patient-centered outcomes research to be especially satisfying. As a result, she recently joined the staff of a patient advocacy organization, The Global Healthy Living Foundation, as director, research development and communications, focusing on grant writing and disseminating results. Sydor’s motivation to serve as an ambassador comes from her deep personal desire to help increase evidence for and use of patient-centered research in practice, and to assist other patients and care partners in accessing such care.

Health Conditions Health Conditions These are the broad terms we use to categorize our funded research studies; specific diseases or conditions are included within the appropriate larger category. Note: not all of our funded projects focus on a single disease or condition; some touch on multiple diseases or conditions, research methods, or broader health system interventions. Such projects won’t be listed by a primary disease/condition and so won’t appear if you use this filter tool to find them. View Glossary
Populations Populations PCORI is interested in research that seeks to better understand how different clinical and health system options work for different people. These populations are frequently studied in our portfolio or identified as being of interest by our stakeholders. View Glossary
