Director for LGBT Programs and Policies, Mount Sinai Health System

Barbara E. Warren is the Director for LGBT Programs and Policies in Mount Sinai’s Office for Diversity and Inclusion and an Assistant Professor of Medical Education at Mount Sinai Health System, where she leads its implementation of LGBT competent health care. She served as a Distinguished Lecturer and the Founding Director for the Center for LGBT Social Science and Public Policy at the Roosevelt House Institute for Public Policy, Hunter College, CUNY. For 22 years, Warren was on the senior management team of the LGBT Community Center of New York City as the inaugural Director for its behavioral health programs; as the center’s Director for Planning and Research, she was responsible for its health policy and government relations initiatives. She holds a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology and has over 40 years of experience in health promotion programs in community-based settings. She is an advocate for LGBT health inclusion in evidence-based healthcare initiatives, serving for 10 years on the steering committee of Consumers United for Evidence Based Healthcare and internationally on the consumer advisory group to the Cochrane Collaboration. In these roles she has represented consumers on guideline panels, served as a reviewer for PCORI, and delivered trainings for consumer advocates in effective consumer participation in evidence-based healthcare initiatives. She serves on the steering group as a consumer advisor for the Health Experience Research Network.

Warren previously served as a member of the Advisory Panel on Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research, from September 2018 to September 2021.
