Catherine Hanson is the Director of Patient and Family Councils at UHealth, University of Miami Health System. Prior to her current position, she was Vice President for Product Strategy for Health eTools, a company that provides electronic health record software for school nurses. Earlier in her career, she worked as an administrator of several divisions in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan. Between 2001 and 2012, Hanson was a full-time caregiver to her grandmother and son. Additionally, Hanson joined the PCORI Ambassador program in 2016. In 2014, she became a patient stakeholder on the PCORI-funded research project: Strategies to Reduce Injuries and Develop confidence in Elders (STRIDE). She has been a member of several STRIDE committees, was co-chair for the University of Michigan Local Patient and Stakeholder Council, and served in a leadership role on the National Patient and Stakeholder Council (NPSC). In 2016, she joined the Learning Health Systems (LHSNet) Project. She served on two subcommittees for this proposal. She also joined Building Capacity for Patient, Family Member and Researcher Engagement in comparative effectiveness research and patient-centered outcomes research in Hospital Medicine (HOMERuN) in 2016. Her other activities included serving as a patient- and family-centered care representative on the University of Michigan Medical Center’s Falls Committee, as well as several work groups and special projects. She is also a teacher for the National Alliance on Mental Illness Family-to-Family course.
