Catherine Thomsen has worked in public health for 25 years and has had an interest in nutrition and environmental and occupational exposures since before her Peace Corps service in Central America. She received a Master of Public Health while caring for family and friends with Alzheimer’s and cancer; she then worked as an epidemiologist, cancer grant program officer, and nonprofit program director. Thomsen’s passion is facilitating the participation of diverse people in community-based or patient-engaged research, in developing effective cancer risk-reduction education campaigns, and in empowering communities to improve health and wellness. As a PCORI Ambassador, she hopes to continue to (1) motivate researchers so that they truly value input from those impacted by the disease of study, (2) provide a bridge between communities and researchers, and (3) help translate research to benefit at-risk populations.

Note: not all of our funded projects focus on a single disease or condition; some touch on multiple diseases or conditions, research methods, or broader health system interventions. Such projects won’t be listed by a primary disease/condition and so won’t appear if you use this filter tool to find them. View Glossary
