Cheryl Pegus, MD, MPH, is a cardiologist and Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Innovation at the NYU School of Medicine, following a 16-year career in the pharmaceutical, insurance, and comprehensive disease management industries. She received her MD from Cornell University Medical College, and her MPH from Cornell’s School of Public Health, and she trained at Cornell in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. She has been a board member of the National Business Group on Health, Institute on Obesity, the Aetna Foundation, and the Care Continuum Alliance. She is committed to effectively addressing health disparities and improving care for high-risk populations, including African Americans, Native Americans, and the elderly. She has developed evidence-based programs and technology services, placing patients at the center of health care, and has studied methods to improve quality of care and reduce costs. Her current research focuses on cardiovascular disease prevention and health disparities; ischemic heart disease quality indicators for vulnerable populations; hypertension management; and cultural competency.

Pegus served as a member of the Advisory Panel on Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research from Fall 2015 - Spring 2018.
