Edward Drake, II
Nation Kidney Foundation – Member
American Association of Kidney Patients – Member
YNOTT Foundation – Staff Member
Edward Drake II was diagnosed with kidney failure at age 20. He decided to turn this negative experience in a positive way by spreading awareness that kidney disease can happen to anyone at any time, which is why it’s important to get checked early. Drake received a kidney transplant in October 2008, and continues to spread the word about organ donation and early detection through his charity, the Youth Needing Organ & Tissue Transplants (YNOTT?) Foundation. He also is a National Field Ambassador for the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP). He frequently visits kidney disease and dialysis patients of all ages, especially young ones, mentoring and comforting them with his own story and positive outcome. Drake also advocates for policies that improve the lives and treatments and expand patient choices for individuals with kidney disease. He was one of AAKP’s initial Ambassadors when the program launched in 2017. Because of his involvement and knowledge of the Ambassador program from inception coupled with his residency in Atlanta, Drake was an ideal candidate to help expand the AAKP Ambassador Program within the southeastern US, providing patient insight and guidance for recruitment and training efforts.
