Before coming an Ambassador, Fatema Mirza had previously done community-based participatory research and worked at the grassroots level with the patient community. She worked on the PCORI-funded E-MARCH engagement project, which allowed her to take a deeper dive into PCOR methodology and provided her with critical tools to engage the patient stakeholder community. She came to understand and employ many PCOR techniques and blended these with project management methodology. Mirza uses the PCOR framework in her work with a social services organization that links patients and caregivers to healthcare and social services, thereby improving healthcare access and tackling health and healthcare inequities, particularly for immigrant and refugee populations.
