Gwendolyn Richardson
Baylor College of Medicine – Advisory Board on Asthma Research Project
Gwendolyn Richardson participated in an asthma study at Baylor College of Medicine. At the end of the study, she was asked to join the advisory board on another asthma project that had recently begun, and she accepted. For three and a half years Richardson served as a patient stakeholder on the advisory board of a project with African-American adults in the Houston/Harris County area. She assisted with recruitment activities and began dissemination of the results. Through this project, Richardson was introduced to PCORI and began to better understand patient engagement in research. She looks forward to serving as an Ambassador in areas of research dealing with other health issues among minority groups, such as allergies and work with older adults. Richardson has observed the significant contributions of PCORI Ambassadors and has met several of them at annual PCORI meetings. She admires their contributions and would enjoy the experience of doing the same to further patient-centered research now that she understands how important this work is. Richardson has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a Master’s degree in Social Work.
