Jim Wu is a Health Economist at Amgen, Inc., and has a background in academic research and clinical medicine. After a short consulting career in managed care provider contracting, medical informatics and relational database design, Jim joined Brown & Toland Medical Group (San Francisco, CA), where he worked in managed care claims operations and benefit design, before leading implementation of an electronic medical record (Allscripts/i3), which included a data warehouse upon which provider reporting was built. Since moving into the biotechnology industry, he has worked for Genentech, Elan, Abbott, and Hyperion Therapeutics, developing expertise in health economics, market access/reimbursement, contracting/pricing, and commercial operations, with his most recent experience in the rare disease / orphan drug area, where patient advocacy is paramount. He holds an MSc in Immunology from Brown University, an MPH from New York Medical College, and a BSc in Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, and Biochemistry from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor).

Wu served as a member of the Advisory Panel on Rare Disease from Fall 2015 - Spring 2018.
