Joey Mattingly’s clinical and research expertise spans the fields of system-level operations, health services research, patient engagement, and outcomes research. His experiences managing pharmacies in both outpatient and long-term care have allowed him to build a solid foundational knowledge of operational and financial barriers to the delivery of optimal patient care.  Over the past several years he has developed new businesses, engaged in process improvement methods to improve operational efficiencies in care delivery, and provided strategic consulting for a large academic medical center to address system navigation for patients. He has completed a Doctor of Philosophy in pharmaceutical health services research pursuing specialization in health economics and patient engagement to inform value assessment of interventions and service delivery.  In 2016, he was appointed director of operations for the PATIENTS Program, a center created through a five-year, $5 million patient-centered outcomes research infrastructure development grant awarded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. His work with PATIENTS has exposed him to various methods of continuous patient engagement that are meant to foster sustainable partnerships with a community of diverse patients to improve comparative effectiveness research.
