Kate Lorig was born with Gaucher disease, has other chronic conditions, and is a cancer survivor. In her professional life, she is Professor Emerita and Director of the Stanford Patient Education Research Center at Stanford University. She has more than 30 years’ experience in developing, evaluating, and implementing self-management programs for people with chronic diseases. She has served on National Institutes of Health review panels, been a human subject, and consulted government and nongovernmental agencies in the United States and abroad. She received a BS in Nursing from Boston University and a DrPH from the University of California−Berkeley.
Lorig served as a member of the Advisory Panel on Rare Disease from April 2014 - April 2017.
