For the last 10 years, Kelly Morales, MA, has been in the trenches, working with and advocating for the immigrant and Latinx community in North Carolina. The biggest challenges that the community faces are the drastic health disparities, access to health care, and immigration policies. Her dual master’s degree in peace and conflict studies and public administration helped her develop the skills needed to address wicked problems like immigrant health disparities in the United States. She has the opportunity now to use these skills at El Futuro and provide more research-based mental health practices around the state to Latinx families. What is even more inspiring is that the organization not only leads these efforts in the state, but that it also maintains a patient-centered approach that creates space for underrepresented patients who often do not have equitable access to mental health care. She wants to join the Ambassador program to continue highlighting the importance of participation and buy-in of immigrants and minorities in research and implementation. She would like to continue to be involved with innovative institutions that uphold these values and be able to educate the immigrant and minority populations about them, inherently creating more bridges between communities and research.

Ambassador Interests

Health Conditions Health Conditions These are the broad terms we use to categorize our funded research studies; specific diseases or conditions are included within the appropriate larger category. Note: not all of our funded projects focus on a single disease or condition; some touch on multiple diseases or conditions, research methods, or broader health system interventions. Such projects won’t be listed by a primary disease/condition and so won’t appear if you use this filter tool to find them. View Glossary
Populations Populations PCORI is interested in research that seeks to better understand how different clinical and health system options work for different people. These populations are frequently studied in our portfolio or identified as being of interest by our stakeholders. View Glossary
