Mark Friedberg, MD, MPP is Senior Vice President, Performance Measurement and Improvement at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA). Mark is responsible for activities related to measuring and improving the performance of BCBSMA’s provider network, including metrics used in value-based contracts such as BCBSMA's Alternative Quality Contract.

Before joining BCBSMA in 2019, Dr. Friedberg was a researcher at RAND, where he led multiple projects to measure, evaluate, and improve health system performance. On behalf of private and government clients, he developed and assessed the validity and reliability of new performance measures and studied how health systems respond to performance incentives.

He is a general internist who provides primary care at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he completed his residency and fellowship. Dr. Friedberg has an MD from Harvard Medical School, MPP from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and BA from Swarthmore College.
