Chief Experience Officer, University of Miami Health System
Represented: Clinicians

Maureen Fagan is a strong proponent of amplifying the patient’s lived experiences to improve the continuum of health care. This focus has allowed her to create and implement her Patient Family Centered Care Model. Cited as a best practice by the National Academy of Medicine, this model drives the paradigm shift promoting the patient’s experience, creating partnerships between patients and families with clinicians, clinical investigators, and policy makers. She is a nationally recognized chairwoman and co-investigator on multiple PCORI, federal, and foundation-supported clinical investigations related to patient engagement. Her work has resulted in the expansion and integration of the patient’s voice within the research domain and the closure of the patient-centered care knowledge gap.

Fagan received her Nursing diploma from Albany Memorial School of Nursing and her Women’s Health and Family Nurse Practitioner certifications from Albany Medical College. She completed both a Master’s in Health Administration and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice at Simmons College. She received her fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing in 2017, recognizing her research contributions in patient engagement.

Fagan served as a member of the Advisory Panel on Patient Engagement from September 2018 to September 2021.
