Melissa Leon serves as a health data analyst for the Center for Advanced Surgical Technology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, addressing surgical health outcomes and disparities through comparative effectiveness research. She earned a BS in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Florida, and an MPH from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Public Health in community-oriented primary care. Her public health experience includes program evaluation, survey design, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, translation of documentation from English to Spanish, and bilingual interviewer. She aims to bridge clinical medicine and public health to assist high-risk populations. Her research interests include racial and ethnic health disparities, intercultural communication, cultural competency, Latino health initiatives, and patient-provider communication.
