Medicare Stars Business Lead, Aetna

Mitzi Wasik, PharmD, BCPS, currently serves as the Lead Business Strategy Consultant at Aetna for the southeast region, including Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Louisiana, for the Medicare line of business. Her current role is identifying areas that drive overall performance improvement around quality measures such as adherence, high-risk medications, HEDIS, Special Needs Plans, as well as other clinical areas. Previously at Aetna, she served as the Director of Medicare Clinical Pharmacy Programs, where she oversaw clinical pharmacy initiatives that support the CMS Stars Measures, including Transitional Care, Comorbid Case Management, MTM, SNP, and the Part D Patient Safety Measures. She was an Assistant Professor at Ferris State University as well as adjunct faculty at Western Michigan University from 2002 to 2005. From 2005 to 2010, she was a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Illinois at Chicago in the College of Pharmacy. She practiced in Women’s Health, Family Medicine, and Antithrombosis. She has also served 10 years in the Army Reserves as a pharmacy technician, EMT, and pharmacist. Her clinical experience includes ambulatory care, hospital pharmacy, and community pharmacy. She is very involved in the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, serving on many committees for both organizations. She previously served on the Board of Directors at AMCP.

Wasik previously served as a member of the Advisory Panel on Improving Healthcare Systems and a member of the Advisory Panel on Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research from August 2016 to August 2019.
