Ron Wincek is a learning professional with more than 30 years of experience designing, developing, and implementing technology-based training programs. He is also a person with Parkinson’s disease. Although brand new to the PCORI Ambassador Program, Wincek has been involved in patient-centered research since completing the Parkinson’s Foundation Parkinson’s Advocates in Research (PAIR) training program in 2014. Since then, he has served as a patient advisor with patient engagement organizations, industry, contract research organizations, investigators, research institutions, and healthcare professionals. Wincek is involved in most aspects of the research development process. He is a patient stakeholder advisor and educational consultant on a PCORI Engagement Award project called Developing a Research Participation Enhancement and Advocacy Training Program for Diverse Seniors (DREAMS). The program was modeled after the PAIR program to increase research participation among diverse and underrepresented seniors. The DREAMS program is ongoing, and it recently held a joint advocate training program with the Parkinson’s Foundation, with the mission to reach out to diverse and underrepresented communities. With the strength of the PCORI community and its guidelines, Wincek’s goal is to develop patient-engagement strategies across all patient groups and research domains.
