Terry Adirim, M.D., MBA, MPH, most recently served in executive positions at the Veterans Administration and the Department of Defense, leading the Military Health System as deputy assistant secretary of defense, principal deputy assistant secretary of defense and acting assistant secretary of defense for health affairs with responsibilities for the military health system’s policies and programs, including quality improvement, patient safety, health information technology, behavioral health, population health and disability evaluation systems. Previously, she worked within academic clinical medicine.

Adirim is a pediatric emergency physician who practiced for over 25 years even while working in public service. In addition to federal policy roles, she has served in leadership positions within medical schools and private sector healthcare institutions. Along with her medical degree, she earned both a Master of Public Health and Master of Business Administration. She maintains academic appointments at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences as a clinical professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Biostatistics and Prevention and has over 100 publications focused on child health and health system issues.
