Tilicia Mayo-Gamble’s research background is in patient and community-engaged research. She worked for 11 years with sickle cell community-based organizations to incorporate patient feedback into her research. Beginning in 2015, she began efforts to engage patients as partners in her research. While working as a postdoctoral fellow, her mentors received a PCORI Engagement Award which allowed her to co-lead efforts to engage sickle cell patients as research partners. She facilitates training of sickle cell community health ambassadors (health workers) to develop a TN Sickle Cell Disease Network. She currently serves as a patient/caregiver panel review member and as a member of the Rare Disease Advisory Panel. She is a caregiver to a husband with sickle cell disease, who, along with the many sickle cell warriors she represents, is her motivation for advocating for engagement and research efforts to support rare diseases.

Ambassador Interests

Health Conditions Health Conditions These are the broad terms we use to categorize our funded research studies; specific diseases or conditions are included within the appropriate larger category. Note: not all of our funded projects focus on a single disease or condition; some touch on multiple diseases or conditions, research methods, or broader health system interventions. Such projects won’t be listed by a primary disease/condition and so won’t appear if you use this filter tool to find them. View Glossary
Populations Populations PCORI is interested in research that seeks to better understand how different clinical and health system options work for different people. These populations are frequently studied in our portfolio or identified as being of interest by our stakeholders. View Glossary
