W. Benjamin “Ben” Nowell, PhD, is Director, Patient-Centered Research, for the Global Healthy Living Foundation and CreakyJoints. As part of that role, he is Co-Principal Investigator of the Arthritis Partnership with Comparative Effectiveness Researchers (AR-PoWER) project, nicknamed ArthritisPower, and Principal Investigator for Bringing Stakeholders Together for Engagement in Research for the Selection of Arthroplasty Implant Devices (BeTTER SAID).
Prior to receiving his PhD from Columbia University School of Social Work in 2014, Ben earned his Masters in Social Welfare Management and Planning (MSW) from the University of California, Berkeley. He spent the following years implementing evidence-based stroke prevention practices as the Community and Long-Term Care Coordinator for the Ottawa-Champlain Region Stroke Centre in Canada’s capital region. Ben’s career also includes leadership, training, and program development for U.S. national and community service programs such as AmeriCorps*VISTA and the National Service Leadership Institute.
