Project Summary

In April 2014, COMET and the Center for Medical Technology Policy (CMTP) jointly hosted a workshop in Baltimore, Maryland, to bring together representatives from Core Outcome Set (COS) groups in North America and key federal officials and stakeholders. This meeting’s purpose was to foster interaction and to develop best practices for COS as well as to explore ways to increase the number of groups involved in COS creation. One key area of emphasis was methods to engage patients, practicing clinicians, and other stakeholders in the COS development process. The work on COS has considerable potential value in promoting patient-centered outcomes research, by providing standardized, validated outcomes for observational and experimental studies, generated through a multi-stakeholder process, with substantial input from patients.
