Project Summary

The purpose of Engaging Patients and Providers in Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Training (EPPiPCORT) of the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG) is to develop a robust community of patients and primary care providers with knowledge and understanding of the unique features of patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) related to primary care. EPPiPCORT derives directly from a patient and primary care provider conference held in conjunction with the 2013 NAPCRG Annual Meeting. Ten dyads, each consisting of a patient and a primary care provider, met for a preconference on primary care research policy and advocacy. The success of the dyads’ preconference prompted the present proposal, which leverages their feedback to shape and refine the ideas and trainings proposed. The current project’s first aim is to build a strong cadre of patients, providers, and researchers who understand the unique nature and needs of primary care PCOR; the second aim is to develop a cadre of patients, primary care providers, and researchers who can collaborate on PCOR; and the third aim is to engage a cadre of patients, primary care providers, and researchers who can participate in PCORI grant review.
